10 Reasons the Cubs Should Move Their Spring Training to Florida
- Of the last 34 World Series champions, 30 held Spring Training in Florida (including 16 of the last 19).
- Florida has an approved budget of between $7 and $15 million dollars on top of a guaranteed $50 million in private funding and three potential Spring Training locations. Arizona failed to even pass a stadium budget.
- Arizona’s dry air is bad for a pitcher’s shoulder. Florida’s humid conditions are much more suited for a pitcher and hitter’s joints. Leaving Arizona for Florida could reduce the Cubs’ injuries.
- Baseball is America’s past time, but Arizona is not honoring American values. Arizona is undermining American principles of freedom and equal treatment.
- The Arizona Law SB1070 discriminates on the basis of “reasonable suspicion.” This legalized racial profiling could result in Cubs players, their family, or fans getting picked up for leaving their ID in the hotel!
- Reverend Jesse Jackson AND Karl Rove agree!: the Arizona law goes too far, infringing on fundamental civil liberties.
- We support our players! The MLB Players Association, represented by their Executive Director Michael Weiner, has publicly opposed Senate Bill 1070.
- We support our fans! Florida Spring Training draws on average 6,700 fans per game. That’s over 2,000 more than the average Arizona Cactus League game.
- Cubs fans are everywhere. The Cubs fan base currently has the third largest percentage of out of state fans based in the MLB (behind the Yankees and Red Sox). We are a team that will draw crowds wherever we go.
- Florida is a better place for vacationing families. The recreational activities are far superior in Florida and draw 86.8 million visitors every year. This is almost three times the 32.4 million tourists Arizona draws.
